ISLAMABAD - Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has strongly rejected the recent remarks made by his Indian counterpart, Rajnath Singh, regarding Kashmir, stating that political rhetoric cannot alter the internationally recognized disputed status of the region.

In a statement posted on X, Asif dismissed Singh's comments as "irresponsible" and an attempt to distort international legal realities through coercive posturing. He emphasized that such statements neither change the status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) nor contribute to regional peace, stability, or meaningful dialogue.

Kashmir Remains an Internationally Recognized Dispute

Reaffirming Pakistan's longstanding position, the Defence Minister stated that Jammu and Kashmir remains an internationally recognized disputed territory, the final status of which must be determined in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the freely expressed will of the Kashmiri people.

"India's continued attempts to rewrite internationally recognized legal realities through coercive rhetoric cannot alter the facts," Asif said.

India Accused of Sponsoring Terrorism

Asif also rejected India's allegations against Pakistan, arguing that they lack credibility in light of what he described as India's "well-documented record of state-sponsored terrorism and criminal activities".

"In fact, India remains the biggest sponsor of terrorism and perpetrator of instability in South Asia, holding the region hostage to its aggressively revisionist designs," he added.

Warning Against Miscalculation

The Defence Minister expressed concern that India's "irresponsible rhetoric" risks lowering the threshold for interstate conflict in the region. He issued a clear warning to New Delhi:

"Pakistan remains committed to peace and dialogue, but its resolve to safeguard its sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security is absolute and must never be tested".

Domestic Distraction Allegations

Asif suggested that Singh's remarks were an attempt to deflect attention from India's internal turmoil and growing discontent against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "autocratic and divisive style of governance".

The exchange follows Singh's address at the 27th Kargil War commemorations, where he claimed that Azad Jammu and Kashmir is an "integral part of India" under Pakistan's control and warned of a "decisive response" from Indian armed forces against any attempt to undermine India's sovereignty.
