ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed heads of all subordinate institutions of the Ministry of Interior to present comprehensive two-year transformation plans aimed at upgrading performance and aligning operations with modern requirements.

Chairing a meeting of heads of all departments of the Ministry of Interior on Monday, Naqvi said the goal was to fully transform every organisation under the ministry on modern lines and make them exemplary and public-friendly.

“The work of the Ministry of Interior is different and extraordinary in nature compared to other ministries,” he said.

“All institutions will be provided with required resources and full support. Newly established bodies including the Land Port Authority will also be given complete backing. We all have to support each other,” the minister said.

He directed heads of all institutions to further strengthen mutual liaison, cooperation and coordination. He also instructed them to ensure effective and comprehensive measures for data security and cyber security.

“Institutions should be autonomous and empowered and should take their own decisions. There is no need to send every matter to the ministry,” Naqvi said.

“Wherever necessary, proposals for required amendments and reforms in laws should be presented immediately.” He stressed that provision of best facilities and quality services to the public could only be ensured by achieving set targets.

Citing improved performance, Naqvi noted that not a single case of drug smuggling was reported during Haj operations last year and this year, calling it clear evidence of progress in the institutions’ working.

Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry said a culture of shirking duties and responsibilities existed in federal institutions, “but we have changed this mindset”.

“All institutions will have to work in a target-based, result-oriented and performance-focused manner,” he said. Heads of all organisations under administrative control of the interior ministry said fundamental and positive changes had come about in the Ministry of Interior’s departments under Naqvi’s leadership.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry, Interior Secretary, Chairman of Nadra, DG of FIA, DG of ANF, National Coordinator of NACTA, IG of Federal Constabulary, DG of NCCIA, MD of Land Port Authority, DG of Passports and Immigration, Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, IG of Islamabad Police, Chairman of Social Media Regulatory Authority, and Federal Prosecutor General.
