RAWALPINDI: A duty magistrate in Rawalpindi on Sunday remanded the husband and servant of Hina Javed in police custody for three days in her murder case.
Hina was found dead in the washroom of her apartment in Askari Apartments in Rawalpindi on Thursday evening. Police said that the body bore signs of torture, with a wire fastened around her neck and tied to the shower rod. They detained her husband and a servant in relation to the case.
Today, the suspects were produced before a duty magistrate by police, who sought their remand for further investigation.
The court granted the Civil Lines police their three-day physical remand, directing authorities to submit a progress report after the remandβs completion.
A first information report of the case was registered on Aug 20 at the Civil Lines police station under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The complainant, Hinaβs brother, Fahid Javed, alleged in the FIR that his sister had been murdered by her husband, her father-in-law and their domestic servant.
Fahid told police that he received a telephone call from his sisterβs father-in-law at 6:53pm on Thursday, informing him of an emergency at their residence. He said he rushed to the apartment with other family members and arrived there at 7:23pm.
He claimed that when he arrived at the residence, he found his sisterβs body in the bathroom.
The complainant further alleged that his sister had been subjected to βsevere torture and mistreatmentβ by her husband. He also claimed that she might have been administered a poisonous substance before her death.
In his complaint, Fahid said Hina had married the suspect in November 2025.
An initial postmortem examination indicated a strangulation mark around her neck, an injury below her right lip and bleeding.
On Sunday, police sources told Dawn the cause of death could be ascertained with finality after the Punjab Forensic Science Agencyβs (PFSA) report was received.
The sources said the role of Hinaβs father-in-law in the case was also yet to be determined and that he was being questioned and asked not to leave the city.
Meanwhile, they added, a seven-member team, headed by Rawalpindi Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Saifullah had been formed to investigate the case.
The sources also said that mobile phones of the victim and three of her family members had been taken into custody for investigation.
