FIR registered against unidentified assailants for killing Ahmadi community member in Mandi Bahauddin

MANDI BAHAUDDIN: A first information report (FIR) has been registered against unidentified assailants for the killing of a member of the Ahmadi community in Punjab’s Mandi Bahauddin district, police said on Thursday.

The case was registered at the City Police Station on a complaint lodged by the victim’s son. Provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) have also been included in the FIR.

According to the FIR, the incident took place at 6:42pm on Wednesday near Eidgah Road. Police records put the crime scene about five furlongs northeast of the City police station.

The complainant told police that he was at a hospital attending to his mother-in-law when he received a call from an employee at his workshop.

The employee informed him that his father had been shot and was lying beside his motorcycle, the FIR stated.

The complainant immediately rushed to the scene and found his father lying on the ground near his motorcycle. He had died by the time the complainant arrived, according to the FIR.

The report said the victim would travel by motorcycle every day from his workshop to a place of worship in the city to offer prayers.

The complainant further told police that neither his father nor any other family member had any enmity with anyone. He alleged in the FIR that the killing appeared to be a targeted attack intended to spread fear and panic among members of the minority community.

The case was registered under Sections 302 (punishment for murder) and Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code, as well as Section 7 (punishment for acts of terrorism) of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Police have launched an investigation into the killing.
