Zardari Witnesses Pakistan-China Deals in Sanya as 75 Years of Ties Marked with Industry, Agriculture, Healthcare Push

 SANYA, China - President Asif Ali Zardari witnessed the signing of one Joint Venture Agreement and two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between Pakistani and Chinese organizations in Sanya on Friday, covering construction machinery, animal health, and medical technology .

The agreements were signed during the president's week-long visit to China, which began on April 25 and carries special symbolic weight as Pakistan and China celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations this year .

The Three Agreements

A Joint Venture Agreement was concluded between the Livestock and Fisheries Department, Government of Sindh, and Luoyang Modern Biology Group, China, for the distribution and supply of animal vaccines in Pakistan, including Foot-and-Mouth Disease vaccines . The agreement also provides for exchange of technology and future cooperation on the introduction of track and traceability systems for animals in Pakistan .

A memorandum of understanding was signed among Al Hassan Trade Establishment, Sany International Development, and Hainan Jiaolong International Technology on cooperation in high-end equipment, manufacturing, and construction machinery . The trilateral collaboration focuses on supporting work related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, strengthening cooperation in the supply of complete construction machinery and equipment, development of a professional talent training system, and provision of after-sales operation and maintenance services. The parties will also explore investment opportunities for establishing factories in Pakistan and advancing localized production of construction machinery .

Another memorandum of understanding was signed between Dr. Ziauddin Hospital and Shenzhen Weibang Technology to develop a cooperation model based on "product + service + solution" in the field of medical technology . The understanding focuses on the innovative application of medical intelligent robots in clinical medicine, with a view to supporting the development of Pakistan's medical and health system .

Zardari's Push for Expanded Cooperation

A day earlier, on Thursday, President Zardari met with Hainan Party Secretary Feng Fei in Sanya to push for expanded trade and investment between Pakistan and the southern Chinese province .

Zardari praised Hainan's transformation into a global trade and investment gateway and called for stronger ties in tourism, high-tech industry, and tropical agriculture. He urged greater collaboration between Hainan's enterprises and Pakistan's industrial and export sectors .

The president expressed Pakistan's interest in expanding cooperation with China, particularly with Hainan province, in tropical agriculture, port development, seed technology, and fisheries .

Green Energy and EV Investment Invited

During separate meetings in Sanya, President Zardari also invited greater Chinese investment in priority sectors including alternate energy, water treatment, and EV battery systems . He specifically invited Wang Jian, CEO of Hangzhou Jinjiang Group - a major Chinese industrial conglomerate - to invest in these sectors in Pakistan .

The president noted that Pakistan is actively encouraging foreign investment in various sectors and emphasized that the Government of Sindh would extend all possible facilitation to foreign companies seeking to invest in the province, particularly under public-private partnership frameworks .

Hainan's Growing Role

Secretary Feng Fei welcomed the president and his delegation, highlighting Hainan's development as a Free Trade Port and its growing role in global trade and investment . He noted that since the launch of special customs operations in December 2025, the number of foreign investors and the value of imported goods in Hainan has increased significantly in the first quarter of this year, making Hainan one of the most open regions in China. Trade between Pakistan and Hainan nearly doubled during the same period .

Feng also noted that more than 500 Pakistani students are currently studying in various universities across Hainan and highlighted that China's largest seed breeding laboratory, employing advanced technologies including biotechnology and artificial intelligence, is located in Hainan, noting the potential for cooperation with Pakistan in this field .

A Three-Generation Connection

Zardari, who noted his family's three-generation connection to China, reaffirmed that friendship with China remains the cornerstone of Pakistan's foreign policy, enjoying broad public and institutional support . He welcomed the anniversary events as a way to open new avenues of cooperation .

The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials including Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Senior Provincial Minister Sindh Sharjeel Inam Memon, Chief Secretary Sindh Ali Hassan Brohi, and Pakistan's Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi .

This is the second set of MoUs Pakistan signed with China this week. The two countries on Monday signed three memorandums of understanding in Changsha, covering water desalination in Karachi, agricultural technology, and cooperation in the tea sector .
