WhatsApp begins testing in-app dialer feature, here is how it will work

In April this year, it was reported that WhatsApp was working on an in-app dialer that could make it easier to make calls through the platform. People around the world prefer to connect through WhatsApp, be it messages or calls. However, until now, things could get a little complicated if you wanted to call someone whose contact number wasn’t saved on their phone. But with this upcoming feature, WhatsApp is on its way to solving the problem.

According to a report from WA Beta Info, some WhatsApp beta users are now experiencing a new floating action button on the calls tab, thanks to the latest WhatsApp Android beta 2.24.13.17 available on the Google Play Store. As part of the update, WhatsApp is introducing an in-app dialer feature. This feature allows beta testers to make quick calls using a new floating action button on the calls tab. Users can make calls directly without adding contacts to their address book or manually opening a conversation.

The publication also shared a screenshot, giving a glimpse of how the new dialler in the app could look like.

Introducing an in-app dialer can significantly improve the user experience by enabling voice calls directly through WhatsApp using internet data, which is often more economical than traditional mobile network calls, especially for international communications. This can be especially beneficial for users with Wi-Fi access or an affordable data plan.
The new in-app dialer also simplifies the calling process. Users can enter a phone number directly and have the option to save it as a new contact or add it to an existing contact card. In addition, a messaging shortcut on the dialer screen allows users to send messages to phone numbers that they originally intended to dial but opted for messaging instead. In addition, the feature notifies users if the given phone number is registered on WhatsApp, so they can instantly know if they can use WhatsApp for that contact.
The new in-app dialer feature is available to some beta testers who install the latest beta version of WhatsApp on Android from the Google Play Store. It is expected to be available to more users in the coming days, expanding the testing base and gathering feedback.
