"We all know about the A-5 / Q-5 (even used by PAF) but it's successor, Nanchang Q-6, was cancelled. It was being developed as a heavy ground-attack aircraft developed in 1970s and 1980s.Q-6 was heavily Inspired by the MiG-23 and incorporating technology studied / collected via intelligence from the US F-111. It was designed with variable-sweep wings and advanced avionics for its time. The aircraft was intended to provide the PLAAF and PLANAF with a longer-range, more capable strike platform than the Q-5.Development was plagued by difficulties with its massive size, fly-by-wire system, engines, radar, and the weight of its advanced systems. Although several test articles were built, the Q-6 never reached flight or production, and the program was finally cancelled in 1989."
