Islamabad: Saudi Arabia's Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan arrived in Pakistan on April 10, 2026, for high-level discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral economic ties, trade, and investment between the two countries.
During the visit, Al-Jadaan met with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and senior Pakistani officials. The meetings focused on enhancing economic cooperation, with particular emphasis on financial support to help stabilize Pakistan's economy.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its consistent financial assistance to Pakistan. In response, Minister Al-Jadaan reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's commitment to continued support, including potential new loans and oil financing facilities to help Pakistan manage its external accounts, especially as the country faces around $5 billion in debt repayments in the coming period.
Social media platforms were abuzz with unconfirmed reports suggesting a possible $10 billion deal for a Gwadar oil refinery involving Saudi Aramco. However, official statements from both sides made no mention of any new refinery agreement during the visit. Discussions regarding Saudi investment in the Gwadar refinery project have been ongoing since 2019 but have yet to reach a final conclusion.
The visit is being seen as a significant step toward further consolidating the strong brotherly relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, particularly in the economic domain.
