"Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif's Message on the Occasion of Youm-e-Istehsal"We solemnly observe this day to remind the world of the grave consequences of India's illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2019, which sought to alter the internationally recognized disputed status of Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), in flagrant violation of international law and the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. Seven years on, these unlawful measures have neither changed the legal status of Jammu and Kashmir nor diminished the legitimate aspiration of its people. Instead, they have deepened repression, undermined fundamental freedom, and accelerated attempts to alter the demographic composition of the occupied territory through unlawful legislative and administrative measures. The continued suppression of the genuine Kashmiri political leadership, restrictions on civil liberties, and curbs on independent media remain a matter of serious concern. Despite these challenges, the courage, resilience and steadfastness of the Kashmiri people remain unshaken. Their peaceful and just struggle for the realization of their unalienable right to self-determination continues to inspire generations and commands the respect and support of all those who believe in justice, human dignity and the rule of international law. The international community must move beyond expressions of concern and play its rightful role in advancing a just and durable resolution of the dispute. Pakistan calls upon the international community to urge India to end its human rights violations in IIOJK, reverse its illegal and unilateral measures introduced since August 2019, repeal the draconian laws imposed upon the people of Jammu & Kashmir and create a conducive environment to enable the peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, through the exercise of the right to self-determination by the Kashmiri people in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions."#KashmirbaneygaPakistan#IIOJKundersiege"
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif recently addressed the nation and the world on the occasion of Youm-e-Istehsal, a day solemnly observed to highlight the ramifications of India's actions in Jammu & Kashmir. On August 5, 2019, India took unilateral steps to change the status of the region, actions that Pakistan asserts are not only illegal but also in direct violation of international law and United Nations resolutions.
Despite the lapse of seven years since these measures were implemented, the expected outcome of altering the legal status of Jammu & Kashmir has not materialized. Instead, the situation has seen a deepening of repression and restrictions on the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people. The Prime Minister emphasized the plight of the Kashmiri populace, who face civil liberties restrictions, suppression of political leadership, and a biased media landscape. However, amid these challenges, the strength and resilience of the Kashmiri people shine through. Their ongoing, peaceful quest for self-determination stands as a symbol of hope, inspiring advocates for justice and human dignity around the globe.
Prime Minister Sharif's message carried a call to action for the international community. He urged global leaders to transcend mere expressions of concern and to take meaningful steps toward resolving the Kashmir issue legislatively. Pakistan seeks not only sympathy but actionable support that calls for an end to Indias alleged human rights violations in the region. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of reversing the changes made since August 2019 and repealing oppressive laws that hinder the rights of the Kashmiri people.
As the situation in Jammu & Kashmir remains precarious, the call for a peaceful resolution through internationally recognized frameworks is more crucial than ever. There is hope that, with sustained international pressure, a conducive environment may emerge for dialogue that respects the rights and aspirations of the Kashmiri people. The ongoing struggle for justice in Kashmir is not just a regional issue; it reflects global standards of human rights and justice. The continued resilience of the Kashmiri people serves as a crucial reminder of the need for collaborative international efforts toward a durable peace that aligns with the principles of self-determination.
