PM Shehbaz Sharif Exposes Afghanistan-India Terror Nexus at SCO Summit

BISHKEK - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif delivered a powerful address at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Kyrgyzstan, exposing the nexus between the Afghan Taliban and India-backed terrorism while making it clear that lasting peace in Afghanistan remains elusive as long as terrorists continue to use Afghan soil to shed innocent blood .

"Terrorists Use Afghan Soil to Shed Innocent Blood"

In his address to regional leaders in Bishkek, the Prime Minister struck a firm tone on Afghanistan, stating:

"Pakistan seeks a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan. But let there be no ambiguity; so long as terrorists continue to use Afghan territory to shed the blood of innocent Pakistanis and other nations, lasting peace will remain beyond our reach." 

PM Shehbaz emphasized that the international community must meaningfully engage with the Afghan government to meet their economic and development needs, but made it clear that this engagement must come with a condition: the Afghan Taliban must take "concrete measures" to ensure its soil is not used for terrorism against any other state .

India's Role in Regional Terrorism

The Prime Minister's remarks come as Pakistan has repeatedly exposed India's role in sponsoring terrorism through Afghan proxies. According to intelligence reports and diplomatic briefings, India has been using Afghan territory to support groups like the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) to destabilize Pakistan .

PM Shehbaz stressed that "terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including state terrorism, must be condemned in clear and unambiguous terms," adding that there is "no justification for killing innocent people or using the bogey of terrorism" for political point-scoring .

Pakistan's Diplomatic Offensive

The Prime Minister's address at the SCO summit represents Pakistan's continued diplomatic offensive to expose the Afghanistan-India terror nexus. Pakistan has long maintained that the Afghan Taliban regime has failed to take meaningful action against terrorist groups operating from its soil, including the TTP which has intensified attacks inside Pakistan since the Taliban's return to power in 2021 .

During the summit, PM Shehbaz also highlighted that Pakistan's "sustained diplomatic efforts culminated in the signing of the landmark Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding" in June, which he termed a "critical step towards regional de-escalation and the restoration of peace" .
