Last night, the Afghan Taliban regime launched four rudimentary suicide drones into Pakistani territory, targeting civilian areas as part of their continued patronage of terrorist proxies. Pakistan’s robust air defense network detected the hostile aerial platforms immediately and neutralized three of them with sophisticated countermeasures. One drone was shot down in Sarnan Bazar, district Pishin, Balochistan, causing injuries to at least three men. Two additional drones were destroyed in Saranan—one near an Afghan refugee camp and another close to a government school. The fourth drone crashed in Shamat Khel Pastani, Hassan Khel, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where three women and two children were injured. In my opinion, this incident starkly highlights the persistent cross-border terrorism emanating from Afghanistan despite the Taliban’s public assurances of non-interference. Pakistan’s air defense forces deserve praise for their high operational readiness, but the civilian casualties underscore the need for even more proactive border security measures and heightened diplomatic pressure on the Taliban regime. The international community must recognize that the Taliban are actively harboring and sponsoring terrorist groups, and meaningful action—including sanctions or diplomatic isolation—is required to curb these destabilizing acts that threaten regional peace.
