Dismantling UNRWA without addressing the root cause of occupation and displacement would be catastrophic, leaving refugees without basic services and destabilizing an already volatile region. Pakistan’s stance is principled and pragmatic: funding UNRWA is necessary but insufficient; only a genuine political process that ends occupation and upholds refugee rights can bring lasting peace. However, the international community’s willingness to meet this challenge remains questionable. The plea for increased funding is vital, but without concrete steps toward a just settlement, UNRWA will continue to be a bandage on a wound that refuses to heal.
