Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee Party Secretary Wang Hao and witnessed two significant cooperation signings. The first document established a sister-province relationship between Zhejiang Province and Punjab Province, aimed at boosting cooperation across trade, investment, agriculture, education, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. The second document, a Memorandum of Understanding between Hangzhou Normal University and the Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing, paves the way for the China-Pakistan Joint Technology Research Centre to be hosted at the university. The Centre is designed to promote academic collaboration, applied research, technology exchange, and stronger institutional linkages between Pakistan and China. This dual-track initiative signals a coordinated push to deepen economic and educational ties, with potential benefits for joint ventures, technological advancement, and enhanced people-to-people connections. In my view, these developments reflect pragmatic diplomacy aimed at diversifying Pakistan’s strategic partners and accelerating knowledge transfer, while also warranting careful attention to governance, transparency, and ensuring that local communities and small businesses benefit meaningfully from such partnerships.
