PAKISTAN CLEARLY STANDS WITH SAUDI ARABIA 🇵🇰🇸🇦

ISLAMABAD - Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has issued a stark warning that further Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia could trigger the collective defense clause of the newly formed Makkah Defence Alliance, declaring that Pakistan is bound by the pact to respond to any aggression against the Kingdom .

"There should be no ambiguity; there is no need for any clarity that this is a joint defence agreement," Asif said in an interview with Geo News. "If there is unprovoked aggression or a spillover of whatever is happening in Yemen into Saudi Arabia, this agreement will definitely become operational" .

"Not a Single Doubt" About Pakistan's Commitment

The Defence Minister stressed that Pakistan's obligations under the trilateral pact, signed on August 7 by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye, are clear and binding . The agreement stipulates that an armed attack against any one of the three states will be regarded as an attack against all .

"There should be no doubt about this. We are bound by the terms and conditions of this pact and, God willing, we will honour them in case there is a need," Asif asserted . He further clarified that even without the trilateral framework, Pakistan's longstanding ties with Riyadh would compel a response: "even if it were bilateral, we would have responded" .

"The Response Will Be Harsh"

Asif emphasized that the pact is defensive in nature and not a mandate for offensive war . However, the defensive nature does not diminish the seriousness of the commitment, which is designed to be a powerful deterrent. "We don't need to respond to a brick with a stone," he said, noting that the collective strength of the three nations should serve to discourage aggression .

He issued a direct warning to the Houthis, urging them not to exploit the broader regional conflict. "If they try to export them, the clauses of this agreement to counter aggression will become operative," Asif warned, cautioning that non-state actors would be doing so "at their own peril" .

The Defence Minister's remarks came after Houthi drone and missile attacks on Saudi cities on Tuesday, which injured 73 civilians and struck energy facilities . Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also condemned the attacks, reaffirming Pakistan's "unconditional solidarity" with Saudi Arabia's sovereignty and territorial integrity .
