Pakistan’s approach emphasizes not only operational efficiency but also legitimacy—ensuring host-nation ownership, credible exit strategies, and stronger links between peacekeeping, peacebuilding, and development. It is essential to elevate civilian leadership within missions, invest in capacity building for host institutions, and promote gender parity and protection from exploitation and abuse. While funding and political will remain challenges, a comprehensive reform package anchored in evidence, inclusivity, and regional cooperation can enhance effectiveness, legitimacy, and sustainability of peace operations, enabling the UN to respond more decisively to evolving conflict dynamics. The forthcoming review should foster robust discussion on mandates, resources, risk management, and performance benchmarks to chart a viable path toward a more capable and accountable peacekeeping architecture.
