The ambassador's call for collective responsibility is not just diplomatic rhetoric; it reflects the interconnected nature of peace and security in the Horn of Africa and the Sahel. Pakistan's principled position emphasizes preserving Sudan's sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and national institutions. This is a direct warning against any external or internal actions that could weaken state structures or legitimize parallel military or political entities, such as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). In my opinion, this is a timely and necessary stance. The international community, particularly the UN Security Council, must avoid the temptation to engage in actions that inadvertently empower non-state armed groups. History shows that when national institutions collapse or are undermined, protracted civil wars and humanitarian catastrophes follow—as seen in Libya, Syria, and Yemen. A comprehensive approach combining diplomatic pressure, targeted sanctions on spoilers, and robust humanitarian aid is essential. Without preserving Sudan's unified state apparatus, any peace process will remain fragile. The world cannot afford another failed state in a region already plagued by conflict.
