According to the NRF, the attack occurred late Friday near the Herat-Kandahar Ring Road junction in Guzara District, where its fighters engaged a mobile reconnaissance unit of the Taliban's Al-Farooq Corps. The NRF reports that two Taliban fighters were killed, and two weapons were seized, with no casualties on its side or among civilians. This incident underscores the NRF's continued ability to strike at Taliban forces despite the group's control over most of Afghanistan since August 2021. Herat, a historically contested province with a strong anti-Taliban sentiment, has seen periodic clashes. The NRF's reliance on guerrilla tactics—ambushes, hit-and-run attacks, and night operations—reflects its strategy to erode Taliban morale and assert its presence. In my opinion, this attack is significant for two reasons. First, it demonstrates that the NRF remains a credible armed opposition, capable of planning and executing operations that cause tangible losses to the Taliban.
