More rain expected from today

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast rain-wind/thundershower in upper parts of the country from August 29 to September 5.

It asked provincial and district authorities to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to avoid any untoward situation during the forecast period.

The Met Office informed that monsoon currents are penetrating upper parts of the country. A westerly wave is also likely to approach upper parts of the country from August 31 and may persist till September 5.

Under the influence of this weather system, rain-wind, thundershower (with isolated heavy falls) is expected in (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from August 29 (night) to September 6 with occasional gaps.

Islamabad will see thundershowers (with isolated heavyfalls) besides rain is expected in upper Punjab mainly Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, Attock, Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Wazirabad and Hafizabad from August 29 to September 5, while in Kasur, Okara, Nankana Sahib, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, Noorpur Thal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal and Pakpattan from September 1 to September 5 with occasional gaps.

Additionally, thundershowers are expected in Peshawar, Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Hangu, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur from August 29 to September 5, while in Karak, Tank, Lakki Marwat, D.I.Khan, Bannu, Waziristan from September 1 to September 4 with occasional gaps.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, rain is expected in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar from August 30 to September 6 with occasional gaps.

In Sindh and Balochistan, mainly hot and humid weather is expected to prevail in most parts during the forecast period.

The Met Office warned that heavy rains may cause Urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Lahore from August 31 to September 5.

Heavy rain may cause flash flooding in local streams/ Nullahs in Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad and Rawalpindi during the forecast period.

Landslides may occur in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat and Kashmir during the forecast period.

It is advised that tourists and travellers remain cautious during the forecast period. Farmers are advised to manage their crop activities keeping in view the weather conditions.
