In a dramatic escalation of regional tensions, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has launched a coordinated wave of missile and drone strikes targeting U.S. and allied assets across Syria, Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and potentially Qatar. According to Iranian state media and military-linked accounts, the attacks were a direct response to prior U.S. strikes, with claims of significant damage at key installations. At Al-Tanf base in Syria, the IRGC says it destroyed a covert special operations center, killing several U.S. soldiers and hitting radar systems and helicopters. In Kuwait, missile defense radars, ammunition depots, HIMARS launchers, and ATACMS storage sites were reportedly struck. Jordan’s Muwaffaq Al Salti Air Base was hit by ballistic missiles and drones, allegedly damaging F-35, F-15, and F-16 fighter jets, refueling aircraft, and fuel tankers. Naval surveillance radars in Oman’s Strait of Hormuz were targeted, while Bahrain’s Al Sakhir Air Base—used for P-8 Poseidon aircraft—came under attack. Unconfirmed reports also suggest Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar may have been hit. Tehran claims CENTCOM’s command center was moved to Jordan following earlier attacks on Al Udeid. My opinion: This represents a dangerous inflection point. Iran is demonstrating both capability and willingness to strike U.S. military assets across multiple theaters simultaneously, moving beyond proxy tactics to direct confrontation. The targeting of advanced aircraft like F-35s and strategic infrastructure like missile defense radars indicates a shift toward asymmetric but high-impact retaliation. The lack of immediate U.S. confirmation suggests either operational security or potential downplaying of damage. Regardless, the region is now on a knife’s edge—each side’s next move could determine whether this remains a calculated exchange or spirals into full-scale war. The international community must urgently push for de-escalation before the situation becomes irreversible.
