Reports indicate that more than 10,000 Gazans have been unable to perform Hajj over the past three years, with at least 71 individuals who were selected for upcoming pilgrimages blocked from traveling. The closures—driven by security concerns and the broader political freeze surrounding Gaza—have denied families a deeply held religious obligation and disrupted a centuries-old tradition. In my view, continuing to bar eligible pilgrims for political reasons undermines basic religious rights and humanitarian norms and calls for urgent, rights-based diplomacy and practical measures to establish safe, verifiable travel corridors.
