A newly leaked audio recording provides irrefutable evidence that the banned militant group Fitna al-Khawarij (FAK) continues to operate with impunity from safe havens inside Afghan Taliban-controlled territory. In the tape, a Khariji operative identified as Azmat (alias Lala) is heard instructing commander Saleem (alias Musa) to collect and inventory weapons in Kunar province, establish secure communication channels, and coordinate future terrorist attacks inside Pakistan. Critically, Azmat explicitly states that he is acting on directives from the ‘Emirate’—referring to the Afghan Taliban regime—confirming a direct chain of command from Kabul to the battlefield. This latest proof shatters any pretense that the Taliban has severed ties with transnational jihadist groups. The logistical support, operational planning, and sanctuary provided by the Taliban not only violate the Doha Agreement but also endanger regional stability. In my opinion, the international community must urgently reassess its engagement with the Taliban regime; continued diplomatic recognition or aid without concrete action against terrorist sanctuaries amounts to complicity. Pakistan, in particular, should leverage this evidence to demand verifiable counter-terrorism measures from the Taliban, including the extradition of FAK leaders and dismantling of training camps. Without such accountability, the cycle of violence will persist, threatening not only Pakistan but the entire region.
