QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti on Sunday met National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta) National Coordinator Maj Gen Faisal Naseer and discussed the overall law and order situation in the province, measures against terrorism, intelligence coordination and a coordinated strategy for establishing lasting peace.
During the meeting, matters relating to cooperation between Nacta and the Balochistan government in counterterrorism efforts were also discussed, according to a statement issued by the CM’s Secretariat.
The two sides also reviewed ways to enhance the capacity of law-enforcement agencies and improve coordination and mutual cooperation to effectively prevent terrorism.
CM Bugti praised the valuable services rendered by Maj Gen Naseer in the field of counterterrorism and expressed appreciation for his role in advancing national security objectives, the statement said.
The meeting underscored the government’s commitment to intensifying efforts against terrorism and building a secure environment for the people of Balochistan, it added.
On Saturday, Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir visited Quetta Garrison, where he reaffirmed that the peace, prosperity and well-being of the people of Balochistan remained paramount for the state.
The visit came amid a surge in terrorist activity in the province, including attacks in Pishin and Chagai and major counter-terrorism operations in Mastung, Kalat and Sibi over the past week.
