"ALERT:Hundreds of WAPDA pensioners are facing distress as LESCO has cancelled their free electricity units without prior notification. The previous months bill was already paid & the entitled free units were deducted from the bill. Consumers have proof of both the payment & the unit adjustment. Despite this, LESCO has now issued a regenerated bill for a hefty amount that had already been settled through those free units, along with penalties & a warning of meter removal.Disturbingly, on August 17 LESCO issued regenerated, inflated bills demanding duplicate payments for the already cleared cycle along with added late payment surcharges & renewed disconnection threats. Holding senior citizens hostage over internal administrative disputes & ledger settlements between WAPDA & LESCO is a direct violation of Consumert Rigjts. We demand an immediate halt to all meter removal threats, the cancellation of these arbitrary backdated charges & penalties & the uninterrupted restoration of legitimate pensioner electricity concessions. This is the first time in several years i have felt that i made a mistake for staying in Pakistan. We demand a clear answer from the ministers & authorities. Consumers should not be made to pay twice for a bill that has already been settled.@CMShehbaz @MaryamNSharif @NawazSharifMNS @akleghari @WAPDA @Lescoofficial @TheSaadKaiser @TararAttaullah @AbsarAlamHaider @HassanAyub82 @hasankhyber @murtazasolangi @GFarooqi @UmarCheema1"
Amid growing concerns for consumer rights in Pakistan, hundreds of pensioners affiliated with WAPDA are facing severe distress due to recent actions taken by LESCO. These pensioners have relied on the provision of free electricity units, a benefit designed to alleviate the financial burden on senior citizens. However, LESCO has abruptly cancelled these benefits without prior notification, raising alarms about the treatment of vulnerable citizens.
Prior to this cancellation, many pensioners had already paid their previous month's bill, with their entitled free units duly deducted. Despite having proof of these transactions, a regenerated bill was issued by LESCO for an inflated amount, which included penalties and warnings of meter removal. Such aggressive billing practices, particularly towards a demographic that includes many elderly individuals, are not just disappointing but potentially damaging to their financial security.
This situation has drawn attention both locally and internationally, with concerns raised among various consumer rights advocates. Many see this as a direct violation of consumer rights and demand immediate redress from authorities. The outcry has led to calls for increased oversight of utility companies and the need for effective communication between WAPDA and LESCO to prevent such administrative disputes from affecting the most vulnerable in society.
In light of the recent events, it is crucial for authorities to act swiftly to not only restore the legitimate electricity concessions for pensioners but also to address the lapses in their administrative procedures. The demand from consumers is clear: an immediate halt to all threats regarding meter removal and arbitrary penalties is essential. Steps must be taken to ensure that such issues do not occur in the future, as any disruption in this regard negatively impacts the already fragile financial condition of many elderly citizens.
As citizens of Pakistan rally to demand justice and accountability from their leaders, it brings into focus the critical need for an equitable system that supports and protects its most vulnerable populations.
