RAWALAKOT, AZAD JAMMU & KASHMIR - Armed members of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) opened indiscriminate fire near the Matial Maira bus terminal in Rawalakot on Tuesday, martyring a Pakistan Rangers soldier and injuring another who were attempting to protect civilians and assist police, security sources confirmed .

The attack occurred early on the morning of July 14, when armed groups belonging to the outlawed organization opened fire in a civilian area near the bus terminal. According to security sources, the attackers used automatic weapons and explosives in an attempt to create chaos and shift blame onto security forces .

Rangers Personnel Respond to Protect Civilians

When police personnel moved to restore law and order, they came under fire from the armed assailants. Rangers personnel deployed to support police reached the scene, where they were met with continued gunfire. One Rangers official embraced martyrdom while another sustained injuries in the exchange of fire .

According to AJK Police, the attack was captured through aerial surveillance, exposing the attackers' attempt to blame security forces for the violence . Police further confirmed that explosives were also used during the attack .

The Reality of the Indian Proxy JAAC

Security analysts and experts have stated that the use of modern weapons and explosives by the banned JAAC proves the group is not pursuing a peaceful agenda but is attempting to undermine state authority through violence . The AJK government banned JAAC on June 5 under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), accusing the group of engaging in terrorism and having links with anti-state elements backed by India .

The AJK government has claimed that the group has caused financial losses of around Rs15 billion and gradually shifted from public welfare demands to political objectives, ultimately developing into an unregistered movement working against state institutions .

State's Commitment to Restoring Peace

Experts emphasized that maintaining peace and protecting citizens remain the top priorities of the state, with strict action essential to ensure the rule of law and safeguard the lives and property of people in Azad Jammu and Kashmir .
