Member states of the International Criminal Court (ICC) voted by majority on Friday to remove Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan from office over misconduct allegations during a special session at the United Nations headquarters in New York.According to diplomatic sources, 82 of the court's 125 member states voted by secret ballot in favour of Khan's removal, while 13 voted against and 15 abstained. It is the first time in the ICC's 24-year history that a sitting chief prosecutor has been removed.The vote came shortly after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio threatened to "dismantle the ICC brick by brick, if necessary." The US has also sanctioned Khan and most of the court's judges and prosecutors over their work on the ICC's Palestine and Afghanistan war crimes investigations.The decision has drawn criticism from legal experts and rights groups, who argue the disciplinary process became politicised after ICC judges reportedly found no wrongdoing had been established.
