DG ISPR Exposes Exaggerated 'Missing Persons' Narrative: Over 9,000 Cases Resolved

RAWALPINDI - Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has exposed the exaggerated "missing persons" narrative, revealing that out of 10,901 nationwide cases, 9,372 have been resolved, leaving just 166 pending in Balochistan .

The DG ISPR made these revelations during a press briefing on July 31, 2026, where he systematically dismantled the propaganda campaign surrounding alleged enforced disappearances in Balochistan .

According to official commission data presented by the DG ISPR:

• 10,901 total cases nationwide

• 9,372 resolved

• 166 pending in Balochistan

• 5 cases pending in other areas

The data exposes the inflated claims made by organizations like the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), which have exploited a handful of unresolved cases to create a false narrative of widespread state repression .

"Match BYC Lists with BLA Training Camps"

The DG ISPR delivered a devastating indictment of the BYC's campaign, stating: "They commit terrorism, attack us & get killed & then their names appear on missing persons lists. Match the lists of BYCs missing persons with BLA training camps; it will match 100%." .

This statement is supported by multiple documented cases:

• Salim Baloch: Previously listed as a "missing person" by BYC, was identified as a commander of the banned terrorist organization "Fitna Al Hindustan" killed during a security operation in Turbat .

• Attaullah Baloch: Listed as "missing" by BYC, BNM and Paank since February 2025, was identified by the BLA as the suicide bomber in the Jiwani Coast Guard attack on July 3, 2026 .

• Burhan Baloch and Hafeez Baloch: Killed in Mastung operations, previously listed as missing .

• Suhaib Lango: Killed during an operation in Kalat in 2025, previously listed as missing .

• Kareem Jan: Killed in the Gwadar attack in March 2024, previously listed as missing .

BYC-BLA Nexus Exposed

The DG ISPR's remarks confirm a long-established pattern: the BYC acts as the political front for the BLA's propaganda war.

Key points from his briefing reveal:

• The BYC provides cover for BLA terrorists by creating false missing persons narratives

• Individuals previously "missing" are later identified as BLA or BLF terrorists killed in operations 

• The BYC-BLA nexus is a sophisticated propaganda campaign designed to portray terrorists as victims of state oppression 

The BYC, which is neither registered as an NGO nor a political party, operates without oversight. It has been documented to receive funding from foreign sources-more than $1.8 million flowing into its online crowdfunding accounts, with 46% coming from abroad-to support its anti-state agenda .

Permanent Resolution by the State

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has also confirmed the permanent resolution of the missing persons issue, stating in January 2026 that law enforcement agencies now operate within a defined legal framework and that "the state can no longer be blamed for the missing persons" .

The government has established legal frameworks for investigation, with suspects to be interrogated at designated centres under police supervision, and family members allowed to meet them during the process .

Pakistan's Resolve

The DG ISPR emphasized that Pakistan's security forces will continue operations against Indian-sponsored terrorist networks and their propaganda fronts. The state remains committed to addressing legitimate public concerns while taking firm action against elements involved in terrorism, illegal activities, and efforts to undermine peace and stability .
