Manama/New Delhi, March 10, 2026 – Bahraini authorities have arrested an Indian national identified as Nitin Mohan, a telecommunications engineer, on suspicion of espionage for Israel's Mossad intelligence agency.

According to preliminary reports from Bahraini intelligence and regional media outlets, the suspect is accused of transmitting sensitive geospatial data, photographs, and videos of strategic locations in Bahrain to Mossad. These materials allegedly included details that could aid foreign intelligence analysis and targeting. The Bahrain Ministry of Interior has confirmed the arrest but stated that further details will be released after the ongoing investigation.

This development comes amid heightened regional scrutiny of foreign nationals in sensitive sectors. Separately, India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) data from late 2025 showed Saudi Arabia deported over 11,000 Indian nationals that year—the highest from any country—primarily for residency violations, labor law breaches, visa overstays, and unrelated civil/criminal issues. Gulf nations like the UAE (1,469 deportations), Bahrain (764), and others also reported deportations of Indians, often low-skilled workers in construction, domestic, and caregiving roles.

Unverified social media claims and some regional reports have linked portions of these deportations and detentions to espionage allegations involving Israel, including in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, and Iran. However, India's MEA has fact-checked and rejected several such viral assertions (e.g., specific Mossad-linked arrests in Saudi Arabia) as misinformation. Broader unsubstantiated narratives suggest Indian expatriates in critical infrastructure may have been recruited for intelligence gathering, but no credible evidence ties these to systematic state-sponsored activity by India.

The incident highlights strains in India-Gulf relations amid complex geopolitics, including India's defense and technology partnerships with Israel. New Delhi has not commented specifically on the Bahrain case but routinely provides consular support to detained nationals abroad.

Further updates expected as investigations proceed. This is a developing story.
