The US House of Representatives narrowly passed its version of a sweeping defence policy bill on Wednesday, despite Democratic concerns over its $1.15 trillion price tag, the war in Iran and a provision expanding Pentagon cooperation with Israel.The fiscal 2027 National Defense Authorization Act passed by 216 votes to 212, largely along party lines. All but seven Republicans backed the measure, while all but six Democrats opposed it.Democrats criticised the scale of Pentagon spending as the Trump administration cuts funding for social programmes. Republicans argued the investment was necessary to sustain military operations in Iran, develop new defence systems, purchase equipment and provide troop benefits, including pay rises of up to 7% and funding for barracks and family housing.Source: @trtworld on X/Twitter
