ISLAMABAD: A PakisΒtan team has won one gold and two silver medals at the 3rd International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO-2026), held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from Aug 2 to 8.
Supported by the InterΒnational Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the competition brought together around 120 students and experts from 19 countries, including China, Japan, Russia, Turkiye, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia.
The team was selected and trained by the PakisΒtan Institute of EngiΒneerΒing and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), under the auspiΒces of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC).
Muhammad Ali from Govt College University, Lahore, won a gold medal, while Muhammad Usman from F.G. Sir Syed College, The Mall, Rawalpindi, and Seerat Fatima from Nixor College, Karachi, secured silver medals. Syed Shuja Haider from Sundar STEM School, Lahore, also represented Pakistan at the Olympiad.
The students were selecΒΒted through the PakisΒtan Nuclear Science OlympΒiaΒΒΒd, an initiative of PAEC aiΒΒmΒed at identifying and nurturing young scientific talent for participation in the International Nuclear Science Olympiad.
In another developmeΒΒnt, Pakistan was annouΒnΒced as the host of the 4th InΒΒternational Nuclear SciΒence Olympiad in 2027.
On the occasion, Dr MuΒΒhammad Maqsood from the PAEC Directorate of EduΒcation and Dr Sajjad Tahir from PIEAS received a commemorative memento.
